Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso

"And he went up on the mountain, and called to him those whom he desired; and they came to him. And he appointed twelve, to be with him, and to be sent out to preach and have authority to cast out demons:” Mark 3:13-15 (RSV)

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 (RSV)

The insight gain from this text is that Jesus called the disciples to make them understudy His life, ministry and relationship. In other words Jesus wanted the disciples to be His Apprentice, to learn by living and serving Him. The implication for today's disciples is to dwell in His presence abiding in Him, in the context of John 15:5 so as to bear much fruit of godly character, ministry competence and divine connection. This has inspired us to develop the theme “Abiding in His Presence: An Apprentice to Jesus”. My prayer and hope is that God will equip each and every one of us as He makes us a complete minister of the gospel in Character, Competence and Connection. Therefore, the catchword of the theme for next session will be the “3 Cs”.
GRADUATING MEMBERS: My singular and earnest prayer for the graduating members is that God Almighty will cause them to abide in Christ, as we are all aware that the primary purpose of our gathering here today is to sendforth our graduating members with exhortation and prayers. I; however, like to call the attention of the graduating members to the fact that it is very possible to want to represent Christ in the world and Church without being His true disciples; for example, the seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:14. Therefore, I appeal to you to be both Apprentices and Ambassadors of Jesus wherever you may be posted.

RETURNING MEMBERS: As we retreat to resume school for another Session for Master of Divinity programme in August 2015, I humbly urge all returning members under God to develop a burden for the fellowship to intercede for her. It is my belief that God will surely reveal to you more than could ever be expressed by any man on the theme “Abiding in His Presence: An Apprentice to Jesus”.  My and Our prayers is for God the Jehovah Jireh to provide for us; all that is require for life and godliness in ministry, pray that we will all come refreshed, as we return back to school in August.

Finally, on behalf of the 2015/16 excos, I like to commend all our graduating members for their contributions especially the resilience of out-gone excos.  And to remind them that their commitment to the fellowship is still relevant.  Your prayers, encouragement and financial contributions, we look forward to. Also, I like to use this opportunity to solicit for the support of all returning members to resolve to actively participate in the monthly fellowship meetings, prayer programmes and other special programmes, that would be featured next Session. I encourage you not to miss out of the peculiar blessings the Lord has for you in this peculiar fellowship. God Bless You all.

God Prosper the MDiv Fellowship
